Federal Premium® Adds More Shotgun Slug Capability in Barnes® Tipped Expander™

ANOKA, Minn. – July 20, 2007 – Federal Premium® is adding another top-notch Barnes® shotgun slug to its lineup to offer rifled-barrel shotgun shooters a more accurate and aerodynamic option. The Barnes Expander™ Tipped Sabot Slug is a truly long-range slug and pushes the limits of shotgun slug technology. It will be available in 20 and 12-gauge loads.
There’s no disputing the outstanding performance of the Barnes Expander shotgun slug. For accuracy, weight retention and expansion, it is the slug hunter’s choice. The new Tipped Expander provides a higher ballistic coefficient for outstanding downrange ballistics and enhances expansion at longer ranges. For the fully-rifled shotgun user, there is no better load.
Shotshell engineer Rochelle Poore is responsible for taking this top-of-the line slug product and making it better with the high-quality components and overall Premium® quality Federal is known for. “The original Barnes Expander slug has been one of the most accurate slugs we’ve come across in our testing. The combination of Barnes quality and our wad design make a perfect pair and really stretch the legs on fully rifled shotguns—and this tipped option is showing flatter trajectory than the original hollow-point design. It even proves better in accuracy testing—we consistently see 4-inch groups or better at 200-yards.”
The Tipped Expander is available in a 12-gauge, 2-3/4-inch 3/4-ounce and 20-gauge 3-inch, 5/8-ounce offering—both boasting a muzzle velocity of 1900 feet per second.
