ImageSports South LLC Challenges Shot Attendees to Rescue the Duck Factory

Las Vegas, Nev. – Jan. 20, 2010 – Skipper Dickson, owner of Sports South, LLC, announced a challenge to SHOT Show attendees that he would match up to $500,000 in donations to Ducks Unlimited’s Rescue the Duck Factory campaign. Challenging other distributors, retailers and show attendees, Sports South’s commitment to Rescue the Duck Factory comes with the understanding that by conserving critical habitat, they are conserving the future of the outdoor recreational industry and especially waterfowl hunting.

Sports South has been in this business for more than 100 years and it’s time we gave back to the resource,” said Dickson at the press conference announcing the challenge. “I have never seen a more pressing time or a more direct solution than Ducks Unlimited’s Rescue the Duck Factory campaign.”

ImageThe Rescue the Duck Factory campaign began one year ago in an effort to conserve more than 300,000 acres in U.S. Prairie Pothole Region. More than 600 landowners lined up to put native grasslands under perpetual easements, forever conserving the crucial breeding habitat for North America’s waterfowl. As of today, Ducks Unlimited has conserved nearly 70,000 acres.

“It’s excellent to see the commitment from Sports South and the Dicksons regarding their challenge to other companies to support Ducks Unlimited’s RDF campaign and wetland conservation,” said Jean Hulbert, DU flyway senior vice president.

Sports South is the oldest U.S. single-source distributor of firearms and ammunition. The Dickson family is long-known for their commitment to conservation and their rich waterfowl hunting heritage.

“This is extremely important for us because we are working with DU to ensure the future of waterfowl hunting,” Dickson said. “We are encouraging others to donate and we plan on matching up to $500,000 to keep the ducks coming.”

Ducks Unlimited is the world’s largest non-profit organization dedicated to conserving North America’s continually disappearing waterfowl habitats. Established in 1937, Ducks Unlimited has conserved more than 13 million acres thanks to contributions from more than a million supporters across the continent. Guided by science and dedicated to program efficiency, DU works toward the vision of wetlands sufficient to fill the skies with waterfowl today, tomorrow, and forever.
