Network of Sportsmen's Caucuses Continues to Advance Legislation for Sportsmen
The sportsmen's community has witnessed another strong legislative session this year, demonstrating how a national network of sportsmen's caucuses working together with the National Assembly of Sportsmen's Caucuses is an intangible force. Reading about pro-sportsmen's legislation being introduced and passed is now a common occurrence in hometown newspapers across the country.
Sportsmen's Caucuses continued to advance a pro-sportsmen's agenda as they became further entrenched in state capitols. So far, the 2007 legislative sessions for the 33 state sportsmen's caucuses have seen the passage of 175 bills enhancing hunting and fishing across the country. Highlights of legislative victories include increasing the number of states passing 'No Net Loss' legislation, expanding youth hunting opportunities, Internet hunting being banned in more than 30 states, increased attention by legislators on the need for dedicated funding for state fish and wildlife agencies, and tax incentives for access and wildlife conservation on private lands.
'Legislators are the intangible force that protects sportsmen. While some aspects of our efforts are not always measurable, we are the ones casting the votes. There is no other organization that has helped legislators pass this many pro-sportsmen bills in this short amount of time.' NASC Executive Council Member, Rep. Marc Gergely (D- Pennsylvania) |
