THE DOCTOR PRESCRIBES A GOOD DOSE OF MINOX, LULABELLE!
By Jeff FletcherSeveral years ago Carl Zeiss Optics introduced the world to digiscoping, the marriage of a Zeiss FL spotting scope to digital camera. Sort of. Zeiss engineers actually created a unique adapter on a tripod that, with a stroke of the operator’s arm, put the camera lens in contact with the scope’s eyepiece.A couple of years later, Celestron took a giant leap forward by making a digital camera part of a spotting scope dubbed the VistaPix. While the three megapixel camera made the coupling very interesting, operation was a bit complicated for most simple minds. Most simply, mine. While both Zeiss and Celestron have now been joined by other optics companies and all have updated similar gear sans any kind of complications (The Zeiss product did not accommodate all digital cameras then in the market pipeline), another giant leap forward in this process was unveil at SHOT this year by Minoxwww.minox.com, and we’re specifically talking about our discovery of the DEC 5.0 in which the marriage of digital camera and an eyepiece has been betrothed to a monitor (think digital camera display screen) which can be connected to a quality spotting or tele-scope to capture pictures of wildlife at grazing time, wild landscapes at sunset or, if one prefers, wild women at play. There is a catch, however. The mount is a bayonet type, which means that the DEC 5.0 (five megapixels) will only fit the following quality scopes: Minox (of course), Kowa, Leica, Zeiss, and Swarovski. Others may yet be in the, uh, picture, so popular as has this pastime feature become. The Minox DEC 5.0, however, doesn’t stop with pretty pictures. You can download images to your computer, to your handheld devices, or to your TV. Really cool!
Last year at SHOT we discovered UpLULA, a universal pistol magazine loader that will save your thumbs for historical reference. Without it, your thumbs (or, at least, mine) would be nowhere to be found as a result of pushing and plunging pistol rounds ever so slowly with great discomfort into my XD magazines and assorted other brands. Made in Israel and marketing in the U.S. by Butler Creekwww.butlercreek.com, a division of Bushnell Outdoor Products, the UpLULA fits a wide array of pistol magazines. We got our UpLULA from Brownells. They retail for around $23-$26. Quote this article on your site | Views: 201

1. Troy, NY Written by Harry's Handguns and More, on 02/29/2008 09:46 I saw the must unique use of a digiscope at SHOT on Sunday afternoon. Once again, it was Leica who developed the new usage. While everyone left of the floor was looking for a tv set to see the Superbowl, those creative guys at the Leica booth set up a digiscope with the camera focused on a tv set from another booth and they were able to broadcast the game without leaving their booth. I found myself spending the most enjoyable 30 minutes at the show watching the game from Leica. Now, I consider that COOL!
