Linda Powell and the Remington folk love to dedicate a day at the Nellis Air Base shooting range previewing their wares to a herd of outdoor writers attending the 2008 SHOT Show. Thanks a million for the invite, you guys in blue!
This year’s shooting session expanded due to Remington’s late acquisition of Marlin and their affiliates H&R and New England Firearms. Remington www.remington.com long has had an influence on kids. With me it was a Remington Model 241 that accounted for dozens of Iowa bushytails. Linda showed me how Remington has progressed in its dedication to youngsters. There are four different youth model rifles. Sure to be a hit will be the Model 700 “SFS” Buckmasters Edition “Young Bucks” Youth in light-recoil .243 caliber. It comes with a Realtree Hardwoods camo stock, sure to appeal to 21st Century nimrods. Everything about the rifle has been sized to juvenile dimensions.
Another model 770 Youth Model, also, in .243, represents a lower cost introductory deer rifle for kids. New this year is a left hand version 700 Youth Model, the first ever commercial left hand youth model big game rifle. It comes in .243 and 7mm08 Remington.
Also new for 2008 is a Model Five Youth .22 Long Rifle with plain wood stock and short barrel. Remington also boasts four youth model shotguns—two cut-down versions of the 870 and two of the Model 11-87. Fortunately for kids starting out shotgunning, the newly-acquired H&R Company www.hr1871.com in Gardner, MA, will continue producing the “Topper” in a competitive trap model. Some 100 years old, the model remains popular in youth competitive events like those sponsored by 4-H and others. Recoil on the Topper drives straight back into the shoulder not into the face, an inherent cause of flinching. Quote this article on your site | Views: 310
