--By Durwood HollisHaving already spent the better part of a day looking over the products of full-line reloading manufacturers, my second day at the show turned into a bullet quest. My first stop was the BarnesBulletswww.barnesbullets.com booth. Their new Tipped TSX enhances the long range ballistic potential of an already proven X-bullet design. Another version, aptly named the Maximum Range X Bullet, has a tungsten-based Silvex core and is touted as the “ultimate multi-tasking, do-anything big game rifle bullet.” And the new Barnes MPG (Multi-Purpose Green) bullet provides a lead-free, highly frangible bullet to meet law enforcement and military needs. Also new for 2008 is the Barnes Number 4 Reloading Manual, with more than 600 pages of reloading data.
Since the lead-free movement has already begun to catch speed, the folks at Nosler have designed their new E-Tip boat tail bullet with a polycarbonate tip and a gilding metal frame to meet this need. Of course, Noslerhttp://www.nosler.com/ continues to produce their ever-popular Partition, AccuBond and Ballistic Tip bullets in a wide range of weights and caliber. And their new 60th Year Anniversary Nosler Reloading Guide is hot off of the press.
It was late morning before I was able to find the Sierra Bulletswww.sierrabullets.com booth. Long a favorite of hunters and shooters alike, this firm’s bullets have always provided consistent performance. New for this year, Sierra is offering a 6mm, 95-grain, hollow-point, boat tail (HPBT) MatchKing bullet, as well as a 30-caliber, 135-grain. HPBT bullet. In their long-range specialty bullet line, Sierra has added a 22-caliber, 77-grain HPBT MatchKing Cannelure bullet. Sierra is also introducing version 6 of their Infinity Exterior Ballistic Software, as well as their Advanced Handloading Beyond the Basics DVD.
Swift Bullet Company’swww.swiftbullet.comScirocco and A-frame bullet design have led the way in bonded core hunting bullet technology. Swift bullets are available in rifle, revolver and muzzle loading design, in an array of calibers and weights. The reputation of these bullets, with their ultimate accuracy and outstanding terminal performance, speaks for itself. However, the company appears to be content with their current array of projectiles and we saw nothing beyond that line. After all, how many more calibers and bullet weights can a company produce after they’ve already got just about everything on the market? Not far away, I was able to locate Hornadywww.hornady.com. One of their most noteworthy new additions is their Dangerous Game Series (DGS) of bullets. All of Hornady’s full metal jacket bullets (.375 caliber and up) have been converted to a copper clad steel jacket material carrying the DGS moniker. Likewise, they’ve introduced a new expanding bullet called the DGX (Dangerous Game eXpanding) which contains a hard lead core for deep penetration, high weight retention and incredible expansion. And the new (Flex-Tip Projectile Blackpowder) bullet offers muzzleloaders great accuracy, terminal performance and enhanced loading ease. Reloaders have a lot to choose from in the Hornady’s extensive line of bullets, loaded ammo, reloading tools and accessories. Speer Bulletswww.speer-bullets.com, another member of the ATK Ammunition System Group, has long been a favorite of hunters with their Trophy Bonded and Grand Slam bullets. New for 2008, the Speer Reloading Manual #14 is hot off the press. Quote this article on your site | Views: 145
