SEXY DOVE AND OTHER AMOROUS DECOYS PDF Print E-mail
--by Bob Whitaker
Walking down the decoy aisle amid a chorus of bird and animal calls who should I spot but old friend and goose hunting buddy Chuck Barry owner of Texas Hunting Products (800-346-1005) who I’d spent many hours flattened out with beneath white camo sheets waiting to blast snows during the Light Goose Season outside Houston.  After agreeing that we were no longer at the age where we could spring up and shoot as fast as those jack-in-the-box 30-year olds, I asked him what’s new in rag decoys.  He quickly pulled out his new Windtamer Windsock, which is available in snow, blue, Canada and speck colors.  It comes stapled to a 2-foot unbreakable fiberglass stake. “I set one out in the backyard during our last hurricane and it was still standing undamaged after the blow.”

I though I’d seen everything from simple to nightmarish camouflage designs until I was waved over to the Jest Textiles www.jesttex.com booth by owner Kerry Forsdahl.  Her company produces over 30 different camo pattern materials to companies all over the world.  It became obvious to me by now that there is a never-ending reservoir of camo designs.

With my mind still set on fooling game, I had to look up MOJO www.mojooutdoors.com. After describing to company president Murry Crowe how last fall I’d watched (with witnesses) a whitewing dove alight on the back of my spinning-wing MOJO Dove attempting sex, I queried him on what revelations he’d come up with for 2008.
He showed me a MOJO woodpecker. “But I don’t hunt peckerwoods,” says me. “Yeah, but it appeals to predators looking for an easy meal,” he explained.  This year MOJO has completely redesigned their duck decoy with faster spinning wings, proven to be more effective, plus a remote controlled multi-cycle mallard. “How about a MOJO band-tailed pigeon,” I asked. “It’s coming,” replied Crowe.

One of the splendid ideas benefitting both kids and adults is the new MTM www.mtmcase-gard.com front rifle rest that works for both rifle and pistol shooters.  The versatile three-legged rest accommodates any size or caliber gun.  Features include wide, wobble free non-marring rubber legs (neat for shooting off a vehicle hood) and precision adjustment dials.  Other models include a front/rear model with solid holds fore and aft, weighing around three pounds, No Model-T era sandbags needed.
