--By Carolee Boyles
Monday: No closed shoes today.  My feet are fine except for one arthritic toe, and Sunday’s cold, wet weather gave it a fit. Good Florida Cracker girl that I am, I took along my favorite sandals, and they did just fine.

Continuing the “education” theme of yesterday, the first neat thing I saw was Carson Optical’s www.carson-optical.com zPix Digital Microscope with integrated camera and video capture.  This thing is just plain cool.  For any mother with a computer and a USB port and cable, this is a sure way to keep your kids occupied and teach them something about the natural world at the same time.  This powerful little zoom microscope displays a magnified image right on your computer screen, and will capture an image that you can save as a bitmap or a jpeg.  Use it to show your kids the fine details of a turkey feather, deer hair, or a fish scale. I definitely have to have one of these just for me!

I continued to see a lot of exotic cutlery today. CAS Hanwei www.cashanwei.com, from
Dalian, China, has a wide range of swords and sabers representing many time periods and geographic areas, as well as a selection of knives.  Besides Oriental pieces such as Katana swords, CAS Hanwei also produces 15th- and 16th-Century style Highland Claymores, broadswords, backswords, and other European-style swords. Walking canes with heads fashioned after Wood Ducks, gun dogs and mountain lions bring all of this right back to the outdoors we all love.

SHE Safari  www.shesafari.com  started out in 17 stores last year; now they’re in 170.  And from a small line last year, the company has moved into a full line of everything the serious female hunter might need.  These are serious hunting clothes, but they are stylish, feminine, and appealing.  SHE Safari is one of several companies giving the women’s clothing movement strong momentum—something we lacked 15 years ago. Because of companies like SHE Safari, maybe this time women’s hunting clothes are here to stay.

If you need any more evidence of the fact that women’s clothing is going mainstream, look at what some of the already established companies are doing.  Gamehide www.gamehide.com has added a women’s line called the Ladies Series that includes a Sherpa fleece-lined jacket and pants, and a packable jacket and pants, as well as a Ladies Second Layer Series.
