By this time, late on day three of the show, I was at last convinced—it only took 25 years—that I could not see the entire show. Carrying bags of brochures and CDs, cameras and occasional samples plus notebooks and a tape recorder…I didn’t work this hard hiking Kilimanjaro.
My final stop was at the CVA www.cva.com booth. There, Nate Treadway, vice president of sales and marketing, talked CVA blackpowder and PowerBelt Bullets www.powerbeltbullets.com, because the parent company (Blackpowder Products, Inc.) owns both enterprises. At the shooting range a couple days before, Treadway and I had talked about electronic ignition for blackpowder shooting and how, on guns such as their Electra ARC Ignition Magnum Series, a single nine-volt battery (rated to 500 shots or 25 days continuous operation) both reduces lock time and eliminates hours cleaning foulings. Electronic ignition, he said, should make their guns easier to clean—if there is one thing we know about blackpowder shooting, it can be quite dirty. And since there is no pressure explosion, as there is with primer ignitions, there is no accuracy-robbing displacement of the charge—allowing full and consistent burn of the powder charge at the bottom of the barrel.
