MARLIN'S XL, HANDI RIFLE IN SXX; HAWEYES FOR BIGGER GAME;
Walther breaking air --By Bob Hausman
Tough the show floor seems to be getting longer and longer to my weary feet, I continued on.
I found that Marlinwww.marlinfirearms.com is introducing the XL7—a standard long-action bolt action chambered for .25/06 Rem., .270 Win. and .30/06 Sprg. It’s stocked with a black or Realtree APG-HD camo synthetic stock. It features Marlin’s new Pro-Fire adjustable trigger, pillar-bedded stock, Soft-Tech recoil pad, fluted bolt, steel sling-swivel studs, polished blue steel barrel and action, checkered bolt handle and recessed muzzle crown. SRP: $326 with black synthetic stock, $356 in camo. I also learned that H&R 1871www.marlinfirearms.com is now making their single-shot, break-top Handi-Rifles in magnum calibers. Called the “Handi-Mag,” these good-looking rifles feature a polished blued steel receiver, 26-inch stainless-steel barrel with Monte Carlo synthetic stock. Calibers are 7mm Rem. Mag., .300 Win. Mag. and .338 Win. Mag. Sturm, Rugerwww.ruger.com has taken its 10/22 rifle action and turned it into the new Charger varmint pistol. Mounted in a pistol-grip laminated stock with bipod, this compact pistol has a 10-inch barrel, overall length of 19-1/4 inches and a weight (without bipod) of 3-1/2 lbs.Ruger representatives proudly pointed out the new M77 Hawkeye rifles series with the new LC6 trigger, positive floor plate latch, integral scope mounts, three-position safety and hammer forged barrel. The Hawkeye series is available in Standard, All-Weather, African and Alaskan editions. Finally, Ruger also has a new Hawkeye Compact Magnum series of rifles in the proprietary chamberings of .300 RCM and .338 RCM. Features include 20-inch barrels, wood or synthetic stocks and Williams U-Notch rear sights. For those retailers carrying air rifles, I noted two products which would be of interest to hunters—both at the UMAREX USAwww.umarexusa.com booth. The Turkish-made Walther Talon Magnum air rifle is one of the most powerful air rifles on the market as its .177 caliber model is capable of breaking the sound barrier by firing special saboted pellets at 1,250 feet per second. The rifle comes in a package including a black synthetic checkered stock, 3–9x32 air-gun scope, fiber-optic sights and muzzle brake. Cocking effort of this break-barrel design is substantial, so it is not a product for some youths or women. SRP: $249. Also having hunting applications but not delivering as much velocity is the Walther Falcon Hunter spring-piston air rifle available in the larger calibers of .22 and .25 caliber. It is built with a synthetic stock patterned in Mossy Oak New Break-Up camo. SRP: $279. Quote this article on your site | Views: 229
