MORE KID TRICKS PDF Print E-mail
By Bob Whitaker
Stalking my way down “gunnery aisle” I saw more reasons why kids today can find anything they want in youth-size firearms.

At Rossi www.rossiusa.com Cassandra Hernandez showed me their new “hat trick” youth gun with three interchangeable barrels.  Cool indeed!

But that’s not all.  Next she pulled off the rack two more “hat tricks”: a model with .44 caliber, 20 gauge and .22 LR interchangeable barrels; another trio that swaps .22 LR, 20 gauge and .50 caliber muzzleloading barrels.  Those Brazilians are ingenious, no doubt about it.

Back in 1993 Paul LoRocco faced a double dilemma.  He was watching kids at the shooting range having trouble lining up the front and rear sights of rifles, plus his eyes were beginning to fail and he began losing trophies in competitive shooting.
LoRocco and his Italian ingenuity decided to do something about it and out came TruGlo www.truglo.com, that amazing stuff that eliminates both front and rear sights.  You now see it on everything from Daisy BB guns to African Safari rifles.  His latest 2008 sighting triumph is combining Tritium to the TruGlo formula. This accomplishes what he has long strived for: sights that glow at night. Tritium, which has long been used in watches proved the magical solution.

Back to the clothing aisles I stopped by Filson www.filson.com.  The famous
Seattle firm has been making world-class hunting wear for over 100 years.  We all know about Tin Cloth and cruiser coats and now this traditional company has taken a bright new step into the 21st Century by introducing in 2008 a complete line of women’s outdoor apparel.  What better proof that women hunters are here to stay with Filson on board.  I visited with Marketing Director Amy Terai, whose smile must brighten the skies over this often rain-soaked city.  She repeated the Filson slogan “You might as well have the best”.   And I knew she meant it pulling one item of women’s apparel after another off the clothing rack.  All brand new for 2008.  My wife was especially taken by the Mackinaw 100 percent wool vest that comes in charcoal, gray or brown. “I’d love to have one,” she quipped nudging my billfold.  Then there was the multi-pocketed Women’s Bush Jacket of cotton cloth, with pleated back for fast-swinging on birds and dangerous game. “I want this when you finally cut loose and take me on Safari,” she snapped. Also new in the women’s line is a windbreaker, shooting jacket, quilted vests and jacket, wool outerwear.  And, of course, famous tin cloth jacket/pants, along with the timber and cruiser jackets.  There are other items, too, related to the outdoors.  Tough trying to compare SHOT Shows, but this 30th edition has to rank among the most enlightening.
