Toxonics refines Tool-less Apprach to Hunting Sights
Some hunters get their hunting sights set, lock them down tight with an allen wrench and then never change them unless pre-season practice shows their broadheads are grouping differently than their field points.
However, a lot of hunters need to frequently change sight settings. They may do so when they switch from shooting video archery in the winter months to 3-D in the spring. They may do so again when experimenting over the summer months with new broadhead or arrow choices. Practice may let them set up longer pin settings for a long-anticipated western hunt, or lead them to set closer ones for hitting a turkey's small vital area from a blind.
For those more active bowhunters, Toxonics has developed a series of Tool-less ProHunter sights. These sights all incorporate the strong MetalOptic TM pin, a steel blade-style pin that is no thicker to the hunter's eyes at full draw than old-fashioned rod-style pins. MetalOptic TM pins are fed by brilliant spooled fibers protected within a groove at the back of the pin. Their unique feature is a multi-part Tool-less Gang Adjust. A lever-equipped machined aluminum knob connects to a threaded steel rod that runs through a drilled dovetail block and into a smaller threaded end block. That end block is milled with a 60-degree taper that matches perfectly with the corresponding dovetail. When a hunter loosens the clamping lever, a spring loaded washer keeps tension on the sight components as you slide them to the new setting. Once in place, a simple twist of the aluminum lever is all that's necessary to lock them down until the next time a sight change is needed.
For 2008, Toxonics has Tool-less ProHunter sights in three or five pin models, with the original .029 MetalOptic TM pins or the newer .019 size. Competitive shooters may want to add the option of a longer removable dovetail extension bar, with or without a 3rd Axis adjustment feature. All these sights come with a lightweight composite guard, or you can opt for a machined aluminum pin guard for a slight premium. Add the magnification package and you get a machined guard that's been threaded to hold an anti-glare glass lens in place with the aid of a knurled retaining ring.
