ImageSolidLockTM Adds Strength to Metal Optic Sights

Toxonics has come up with a new way to lock down the gang windage and elevation adjustments on sights that may ultimately prove to be as important to the evolution of hunting sights as the company's introduction two years ago of the blade-style MetalOptic TM sight pin.

Most gang adjustments are locked down by turning a screw that bends metal cut just a few thousands of an inch larger than the dovetail it clamps onto. Loosen the screw and the tough aluminum relaxes enough for you to reposition the windage bar against the mount or against the elevation bar that's typically part of the sight head. "That's a proven system that works fine when you can hold tolerances as tight as we do in our new plant in Mineral Springs," Toxonics President Scott Slates said. "But we couldn't keep those tight tolerances and offer a camo sight series, because the camo film itself varies in thickness more than that tolerance, based on what part of the pattern you're trying to clamp to."

ImageToxonics beefed up the thickness of its reversible mounting arms so it could incorporate a more sophisticated clamping system for the new SolidLock TM sight series. When you turn the beefy socket head cap screw now, your moving a threaded steel plunger that draws one aluminum part into the exact counter-bore of another. The wide contact area means your sight settings are locked down tight without deforming metal or scuffing up the camouflage finish. The fact you're threading steel into steel also adds strength over the former steel-to-aluminum approach.

"We developed the SolidLock TM system to address the market's desire for camo sights that are a perfect match for today's most popular bow patterns," Slates said. "Then we found it offered such an improvement in rigidity of the sight and security of the gang settings we'll also offer it anodized in black, for the hunter who simply wants the most rugged, trouble-free sight he can buy."

Camo versions of the SolidLock Sights are being dipped in Realtree
® All Purpose Camo TM and Mathews® Lost Camo TM. They'll come with 3, 5 or 7 MetalOptic TM pins in the popular .019 diameter. These pins are no thicker to the shooter's view than flimsy rod-style pins, yet their steel blade design makes them just about unbreakable. The fiber optic is protected in a groove along the back of the pin and runs to plenty of spooled fiber protected under a clear guard.
