Smith & Wesson 's Jerry Miculek Wins 17th Annual International Revolover Championship
Miculek Extends Streak to 16 Consecutive Victories Annette Aysen Named Ladies National Champion in Limited Division
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (June 12, 2008) – Smith & Wesson Corp., announced today that Professional Shooter Jerry Miculek was the overall winner at the 17th Annual Smith & Wesson International Revolver Championship (IRC) held last weekend at the Hogue Action Pistol Range in Morro Bay, California. Miculek, competing in the Open Division with his Smith & Wesson Model 627, won his 16th IRC championship title while extending his record streak of back-to-back title victories since competing in the 1993 IRC match. In a shooting competition that brought in 232 contestants from around the globe, the IRC featured 12 different stages of fire with a variety of swinging and no shoot targets. Miculek, competing with a Smith & Wesson Performance Center Model 627, was able to post top scores in eight stages advancing him past second place finisher Neil Hogue. In the Limited Division, Smith & Wesson sponsored shooter Annette Aysen was named the Ladies National Champion. Aysen, who also used a Performance Center Model 627, was able to capture her first championship title in only her third IRC appearance. “I feel very fortunate to have won this year’s championship,” said Smith & Wesson Revolver Champion Jerry Miculek. “When I first competed in this match, I never thought that a streak like this would be possible. There are so many great shooters in this division and to be able to post consecutive wins over so many years takes a lot of preparation and a certain amount of good luck.” After the match, Miculek attributed his accurate shooting to the same revolver he has used for the past eight years, a Smith & Wesson Performance Center Model 627. The 8-shot revolver, chambered for .357 Magnum®, features a 5-inch barrel and is constructed of stainless steel material. Miculek noted the exceptional accuracy of the revolver and his ability to shoot 2-1/2” groups at 50 yards as key reasons for his success. “Jerry has won 16 of the 17 championships. He hurt his thumb just before the match one year and that is the only championship he did not win,” said Nelson Dymond, Match Director. “This is an unprecedented feat and one that will surely stand in the record books for many years to come. Jerry is a true champion both on and off the course and his ability to win on so many levels demonstrates his remarkable skills. It has been a pleasure to meet and watch him perform over his career and I’m confident he will be back to defend his title.” Additional Smith & Wesson Team members performed well throughout the match. Competing in the Limited Division, Elliot Aysen finished an impressive second place while placing 15th overall in the championship. Other performances in the top 16 went to David Olhasso who placed 12th in the Open Division and 13th place overall along with Craig Buckland who placed 16th in the Limited Division and 59th overall in the championship.
