ImageRWS' .308 WIN UNI 180-Gr.Cartridge Spells Double Trouble For Big Game RWS UNI

Classic Bullet Ideally Combines High Shock Effect with Deep Penetration

RWS has combined the two most sought-after qualities in a medium to large game hunting bullet — a high penetration rate and a delayed shock effect — in the German firm’s .308 Winchester UNI Classic 180-grain cartridge.

The UNI bullet was developed as a completion of the development process to the company’s well-respected ID Classic bullet, which perfectly combines high shock with penetration in the target. With the UNI bullet, the shock effect kicks in a little later after the bullet has deeply penetrated, making it more effective on larger game.

The UNI bullet is constructed with a soft lead core tip fused to a harder and heavier tail core. As a result, the projectile tends to mushroom somewhat less. However, its penetration force is increased due to the hard and heavy rear core as well as the aerodynamic torpedo-shaped tail section of the bullet. The torpedo-shaped tail,
with its larger base area, improves the projectile’s external ballistics by lending high flight stability to the bullet.  The UNI’s nickel-plated jacket, thinner at the front and thicker at the rear, helps the bullet to stay together by limiting its fragmentation to achieve deep penetration while preserving game meat.

The ballistic performance of the RWS .308 Win. UNI 180-grain load is as impressive as its well-thought-out construction. At the muzzle, the cartridge delivers 2,560 fps velocity and an impressive 2,619 ft./lbs. of energy. At 100 yards, the load is yielding 2,315 fps of velocity and 2,142 ft./lbs. of game-stopping energy. Even at the longest practical hunting range, 300 yards, this cartridge achieves 1,867 fps velocity and 1,393 ft./lbs. of energy.
