BUCK KNIVES PDF Print E-mail

Buck's 2007 Limited Editions Offer Tantalizing Selection

Image
Every year Buck Knives custom craftsmen create a new collection of Limited Edition works of art that whet the appetite of true knife aficionados. From this year's  impressive assortment of 15 models, one stands out from all the others. It's called the Gen 5 Skinner, designed by Josh Buck, representing the knifemaking family's fifth generation.

The Gen 5 is an elegant skinner that embodies many of the elements you may have seen from his great-grandfather, Al Buck. Josh, just 21 years old, has been working in various roles at Buck since he was a teenager, and his first design effort demonstrates a true flair. He has taken much of the bulk out of a typical skinner, yet it delivers the function without the weight.

The 3” blade, made of 154CM steel, is mirror-polished and personally signed by Josh, son of President and CEO CJ Buck. Overall, the Gen 5 is 7-7/8” and weighs 4.5 oz. The eye-catching handle is made of rare snakewood, with a lustrous brass guard. Even the brown leather sheath has been custom designed. Only 500 will be produced, each serialized and packed in a handsome Buck Limited Edition box, with a Certificate of Authenticity. The Model 005LE has an MSRP of $300.

While the Gen 5 may be the star of this year's Limited Edition show, there are many others sure to please the most demanding collector. Three created by Buck's master craftsman Wilde Bill Cody include a dramatic Custom Bowie with a mirror-polished 8” blade and an Apple Coral handle with mosaic pins and a Mokume guard. MSRP of the Model 916 is $570.

Another impressive knife is the Heritage File Dagger, inspired by founder Hoyt Buck's use of old files for his knife blades. The 6-5/8” blade is machine-grooved to replicate the pattern of a file. The handle of buffalo horn and bloody jasper add an   even more distinctive look to this knife. MSRP of the Model 976 is $530.

Among the other wide range of choices is a Mastodon Ivory Duke; a new Brian Yellowhorse creation with his classic Navajo artisan's touch; a Jaguar Kalinga fixed-blade, with a gold-plated jaguar image on the blade; and an Alpha Dorado with giraffe bone handle, complemented with “rain drop” Mokume.
