A Partnership To Help Preserve American Heritage For The Generations Trijicon has teamed up with "On the Water, In The Woods With Cody and Cody" To Highlight the NRA's Adventure Camp
In today’s society, young people in America are offered few opportunities to truly develop vital traits, such as leadership and responsibility, especially those that come with the time honored lessons and traditions associated with the outdoors. That’s why Trijicon®, Inc., a world leader in Brilliant Aiming Solutions™, has partnered with C2 Productions, the creators of the popular hunting show “On The Water, In The Woods With Cody And Cody,” to focus on the NRA Whittington Center’s Adventure Camp — where young men and women experience America’s heritage first-hand in a unique and positive environment from some of the most skilled instructors and outdoor specialists in the nation. ldquo; In today’s urban society, few young adults ever get the opportunity to develop the kind of responsibility and teamwork they do here at the Adventure Camp,” said Bill Perkins, Camp Director. Run completely through the dedication of volunteers from across the country, the non-profit camp is supported primarily through donations from such industry leaders as Trijicon. “We never cut corners on equipment and safety, so without the support we get from the industry, we could never do what we do,” said Perkins.
Dedicated to the mission of the NRA Whittington Center Adventure Camp, Trijicon has donated many of its shooting optics, including its AccuPoint® riflescopes, ACOG® shooting scopes and Bright & Tough™ night sights for pistols, to help NRA instructors at the center teach youth the solid and safe fundamentals of pistol, rifle, muzzleloading and shotgun shooting. The camp extends this experience far beyond range basics, strengthening each camper through training in such things as wilderness map reading, preparing a hunting camp, animal tracking, care of downed game and an understanding of wildlife management techniques — all in lessons designed to encourage and build leadership and team spirit.
“We are very proud to help the Whittington Center provide these campers sights and scopes to learn how to safely use and handle firearms, which is only a small portion of what they learn here,” said Trijicon’s Marketing Coordinator Susan Belanger. “Programs like these are vital to broaden the horizons of our country’s younger generations, giving them a unique opportunity that literally cannot be found anywhere else in the world.”
The Adventure Camp was started in 1988 and is held on the NRA Whittington Center’s 33,000-acre complex located near Raton, New Mexico. Run twice a year in two 13-day summer sessions, the camp is designed to teach and develop young men and women, ages 13 to 17, and from all walks of life. Regardless of their experience or skill set, each of the 48 campers is presented with challenges and opportunities designed specifically to foster strong responsibility and teamwork that will serve them well later in life. In fact, one of the requirements for volunteering as a camp counselor is prior attendance as a camper.
“I have wanted to come to the camp for more than three years and I am very thankful for all the friends I have made,” said 15-year-old Ashley Matthews from Burkett, Texas — a town of less than 100 people. “It has definitely made me more confident in the outdoors, and I am really looking forward to coming back as an instructor.”
C2 Productions shares in this commitment to bringing the excitement and knowledge of hunting and the outdoors to young adults and will feature this year’s camp on their popular hunting show. Now in its fifth year on The Sportsman Channel and starting as a regular feature on www.outfitters.tv, “On The Water, In The Woods” has worked hard to get people involved and interested in the outdoors, especially younger viewers — teaching them the success and independence that can be achieved in the wilderness.
