SIG Sauer has some new firearms coming out for autumn, with the P320-M17 pistol already making waves and another rifle — maybe? — on the way.

The P320-M17 is the civilian version of the M17, whch was awarded the Modular Handgun System contract United States Army. Here's the dope on it from SIG:

The P320-M17 is a 9mm, striker-fired pistol and comes with two 17-round magazines. The pistol features a coyote-tan PVD coated stainless steel slide with the same optic cut as specified by the MHS contract, and black controls just like the pistols currently being shipped to the U.S. Army; it comes equipped with a SIGLITE front night sight and removable Night Sight rear plate. The P320-M17 features a coyote-tan carry-length grip module, available in three sizes, and comes standard with a manual safety. Non-manual safety P320-M17 pistols will be shipped at a later date.

The P320-M17 Specs:

  • Total length: 8″
  • Barrel length: 4.7″
  • Weight (incl. magazine): 29.6 oz.
  • Height: 5.5″
  • Width: 1.3″
  • Sight radius: 6.6″

MSRP: $768.00

The Army contract news was announced earlier this year and, of course, interest in a civilian version quickly followed. SIG was prepared for it and had the P320-M17 in mind. The P320-17 is shipping to retail outlets now so check with your distributors.

That New SIG Rifle?

Yes, there's a new rifle on the way, too, maybe, and that's about all we know for now other than the name: TREAD.

I say maybe because we don't know for sure just yet. It could be a new rifle, which is what SIG's history has shown us. The SIG MPX carbine introduced in 2017 was a hit, as was the MCX Rattler available in 300 BLK. The latter incorporates features of the MPX but is far more compact and designed for discreet carry.

What's coming now? Another semi-auto rifle? What if it's a bolt-action rifle for hunting and long-range? Or what if it's a shotgun? SIG CEO Ron Cohen was coy in May when SIG hosted a group of dealers about what was in store, but mention shotgun and he'll probably give you that look. We don't believe it's the latter, or a bolt-action, but until we see it we don't know for sure.

Whatever it is, and it's probably a new AR, I'm sure this new Tread be pretty cool SIG's continual push for improvements and breakthroughs. We'll find out more this week and keep you updated.
