With recent changes to the suppressor-buying process, more and more hunters are flocking to stores looking for a can that will make hunting more comfortable and less damaging to their hearing. Dead Air Silencers is well-positioned to offer them the perfect model, particularly in the Nomad line. But which model you sell each customer is going to depend on what their intended use is and what they prioritize most in their hunting rifle setup.

For the Hunter Who Isn’t Sure: The Nomad 30

MSRP $949

14.5 ounces, 6.5 inches

Some hunters don’t know enough about suppressors to have a strong preference about what they like and need. For those hunters, the Nomad 30 is the all-around, do-anything model that offers a balance of weight, size and durability. It’s built for hard use (it’s even full-auto rated) with 17-4 PH stainless steel construction, and while it’s rated for up to .300 Norma Mag, it has no barrel length restrictions, which makes it extremely versatile. It’s also the most affordable option in the line. If your shopper doesn’t know exactly which gun they’ll put their can on or they don’t really know what they want out of a suppressor other than noise reduction, the Nomad 30 is a great all-around choice.

For the Hunter Who Wants Maximum Sound Suppression: The Nomad L

MSRP $999

18.3 ounces, 8.4 inches

The Nomad L is longer than the 30, prioritizing sound suppression, particularly with higher-pressure cartridges. Its improved high-efficiency baffle design is engineered for industry-leading muzzle sound reduction, with stainless steel construction and no barrel length restrictions. It’s versatile also, rated up to .300 Norma Mag, and is full-auto rated. It’ll even handle sporadic mag dumps! Because everything in this model is designed with maximum noise reduction in mind, the Nomad L is not exactly lightweight, which makes it ideal for precision shooters and anyone who cares more about sound suppression than weight savings.

For the Hunter Who Wants Maximum Performance in a Lighter Package: The Nomad LTi XC

MSRP $1,199

9.9 ounces, 8.12 inches

The LTi XC is lighter than most of the rest of the Nomad series, achieved via Grade 5 titanium construction with advanced additive manufacturing and an enhanced two-stage coaxial baffle system. It’s rated for cartridges up to .300 RUM and 4,400 ft./lbs. of energy, making it an excellent option for a rifle your customer intends to carry deep into the backcountry.

For the Hunter Who Prioritizes Weight Above All Else: The Nomad Ti XC

MSRP $1,099

7.4 ounces, 6.35 inches

Mountain hunters and others who want their rifle as lightweight as possible will want to check out the Nomad Ti XC, which is more than 2 ounces lighter than the LTi XC. This is the lightest suppressor in the Nomad line, built for customers who hunt hard and carry their rifle for miles (the XC in the name stands for cross-country). Like the LTi, it’s made with Grade 5 titanium and advanced additive manufacturing, and it utilizes Dead Air’s patented Nomad baffle technology with an enhanced two-stage coaxial baffle system. If your customer is the go-hard, never-stop type of hunter who wants to shave ounces at every opportunity, the Nomad Ti XC is the suppressor to recommend.

For the Hunter Who Wants a Shorter, Balanced Option: The Nomad Ti OTB

MSRP $1,049

10.5 ounces, 7.65 ounces; adds 4.6 inches to rifle length

The unique design of the Ti OTB allows this suppressor to fit over the barrel of the rifle — so although it measures 7.65 inches in length, it adds only 4.6 inches to the overall length of the gun. This remarkable design directs the blast chamber rearward over the barrel, distributing the length and weight of the suppressor more evenly over the barrel. The result is twofold. First, backpressure is reduced and sound suppression is improved. Second, the gun balances better and is more easily maneuvered without feeling unnecessarily long and front-heavy.

The Nomad Ti OTB is made of Grade 5 titanium with a bore diameter of .30 caliber, and it’s rated for up to .300 RUM and 7mm Backcountry. Dead Air’s Xeno Radial Brake mount makes it simple to install, remove and reinstall with minimal point-of-impact shifts, and in most cases, there’s no modification needed for most standard threaded barrels. The Xeno threads into a muzzle with a standard 5/8-24 thread pattern, and then the suppressor slips over and screws into the muzzle device. It works on barrels up to an inch in diameter.

This suppressor might be the best of all worlds, with excellent sound suppression, a weight that puts it on the lighter side of average, and an innovative design that offers serious savings in length. If your customers hunt in tight corners, like shooting houses or ground blinds, or if they are looking for something that helps maintain their gun’s balance for snap shots and a comfortable feel, the Nomad Ti OTB is just the ticket.

All the suppressors in Dead Air’s Nomad line can be used on bolt-action or semi-auto rifles, though some are rated for full auto and others are not. With different material construction and designs, the Nomad models come in a variety of lengths and weights, and some prioritize one feature over another. There’s one for every hunter, so ask your customer a few questions about what kind of hunting they do and what they prioritize in a rifle, and you’ll find the Dead Air Nomad that’s right for them in no time.
