Shooting Sports News: Sig Sauer Riflescope Picked by DoD; New AmmoReady Partner

Sig Sauer's Tango6T has been selected by the U.S. Department of Defense for the Direct View Optic (DVO) in response to a solicitation to enhance squad performance with a variable powered riflescope.

Unlike older generation non-magnified or fixed-magnification optics, the Tango6T is a 1-6X variable-magnification riflescope that enables the soldier to engage both close quarter targets and targets at extended ranges.

This award from the U.S. DoD is the third award for the riflescope; previously selections for the Tango6T include the Squad Designated Marksman Rifle (SDMR) and the USSOCOM Squad-Variable Powered Scope (S-VPS). The Tango6T is currently in use with the U.S. Army Squad Designated Marksman and U.S. Military Special Forces.

“After rigorous and stringent testing, where the best of the industry competed, we are proud to confirm the Tango6T riflescope has been selected by the U.S. Army as the Direct View Optic,” said Ron Cohen, President and CEO. “This is a three-peat for the Tango6T. As the riflescope continues to prove it will withstand the rigors of U.S. military testing, making it the choice for use with our soldiers. The further proliferation of the riflescope into the U.S. Military’s M4A1 operating system is an exciting achievement for Sig Sauer Electro-Optics and further proof that the Tango6T is the direction of the future.”

The Tango6T 1-6x24 DVO riflescope will be used on M4A1 carbines. It is a first focal plane ruggedized riflescope with a Flat Dark Earth (FDE) anodized aircraft grade aluminum main tube. It features the DWLR6 reticle capable of providing range estimation and wind holds at extreme distances, the advanced Hellfire illumination system for fast target acquisition, a locking illumination dial, Power Selector Ring (PSR) Throw Lever, the Alpha4 ultralight mount, and a laser-marked scope level indicator for intuitive installation.

The Tango6T 1-6x24MM is available commercially at local retailers and at, in first and second plane, and varying reticles including 5.56/7.62 Horseshoe Dot, Hellfire MOA Milling, Hellfire FL-6 and the new DWLR6.

XS Sights Changes Name Popular Sight

XS Sights is changing the name of its popular 3-Dot RAM Night Sights, effective immediately, to R3D Night Sights due to a trademark issue.

“We always like to be smart with our resources and lengthy litigation wasn’t the way to go,” said Zack Kinsley, Marketing Manager for XS Sights. “To our support channel, please know it will not affect our forward momentum. We are excited to announce the new suppressor height line extensions for popular LE and aftermarket pistols, and we plan to continue with the R3D product line full speed ahead.”

The radioactive material night sights have a traditional 3-dot tritium and notch and post sight picture. The rear sight is blacked out to increase contrast against the front sight which is available in bright orange or green. XS’s proprietary Ember Glow Dot technology allows the front sight to absorb ambient light and glow in low light. The front tritium lamp in the R3D sight also charges the Ember Glow Dot, making the front sight glow brighter than the rear, keeping one’s focus down range.

Other advantages of the R3D Night Sight:

  • The brightly colored Ember Glow Dot in the front sight is a much brighter color which differentiates the front dot from the two rear dots.
  • The notch is 15% wider than the front sight, allowing more visible light around the front sight. This makes it easier to see the front sight in changing light conditions and when shooting on the move, aiding in sight alignment, and increasing accuracy.
